CF-18 pictures from Lethbridge accident...

Incredible photos from last Friday's accident in Lethbridge.

Looks like the left engine has the nozzles open so that one either in AB or flamed out. Cool sequence of the rocket seat coming out, the canopy leaving the scene, the chute opening sequence and the separated seat falling away...technology is great! The impact photo has flame shooting out of the left engine adds to the puzzle.

I'm guessing the right engine was flamed out and the left in AB (or reheat) as the British call it) to compensate for loss of thrust.

A few shots of the Kirby Petrel

The Kirby Petrel was a full size sialplane built around 1936 in Kirbymoorside England. The model is 1:3.5 scale and was scratch built from my own plans during 2003-2005.

The span is 5 metres

AUW is 18.5 lbs (8.5 kg)

Rudder, all flying Tailplane, Ailerons, Airbrakes.

I used standard servos in the wings and 1/4 scale servos for ele/rudd. There is one 5 cell 1700 mah battery. The Petrel flys mostly off the slope and will float around quite happily in 4 knots and above. The model thermals extremely well and is very stable in the air and easy to land, the brakes being most effective. Aileron differential is about 70 %. The wings are built over a purpose built curved board and replicate the gentle gull curve of the original glider( my pet hate being gull wings with a sharp angular break)

New Fusion 60

We had a great weekend of flying last weekend. I finally got to see Pauls new Fusion 60 (actually 68 inches) in decent lift. It looked to perform well and was pretty fast. Here are some snaps that I took including a shot showing the difference between the Fusion mk2 and Fusion 60 (if a bit blurry)

This has to have been the biggest thunder and lightning show I have seen in my lifetime here in Cambridge tonight, it's the third evening thunderstorm we've had in as many days - I dare not look how deep the water is in my Garage again now!

What's more the thunder and lightning went on like this for an hour or more!

Manawatu WW2 combat

A while ago the Manawatu Slope Soarers held a WW2 combat day. It was a great day and everyone had fun. The Combat was run with 3 rounds, the first round 1/2 the entrants tried to knock down the B17 bomber and the other 1/2 had to defend it. Round 2 the feild was reversed. Round 3 was a all in fighter combat.

We did have a winner who managed to take down the bomber, the combat prize was a Warro foamie.

Heres a couple of pic's of the day.

We all flew the same fighter so no advantage.

I troll the net all the time checking out new models and finding out what latest techniques and tricks have been devised and have picked up a few pics along the way. I thought I would just drop a few of the glider related ones in here as I get the time.

First inslament. An interweb friend of mine has a daughter who is a fashion designer and works from home. She has models come around periodically to try on clothes she has designed. Never one to let a good opportunity go by Paddy rounds them up to model some of his planes. A few pieces of his handy work below.
