    Any takers?

Hi all, i dont really have the time or motivation to keep this site going, or promote it any longer. I was hoping that someone out there may be interested in taking it over? This site needs some new blood, a new direction, and someone who can give it the time and effort it deserves. At the moment, its just slowly dying, and that's not right. There so much stuff on this board that will benefit many. Please PM me if you're interested in taking over partially or completely. Pete.

    Gliders for sale

Im selling my: Dynamic D40 - 40" carbon dynamic soaring model. Crazy fast fun on the slope as well. Some damage which has been repaired and doesn't affect it. Carbon Rockbreaker - 48" swept flying wing. made in Aus - good fun on the slope too as well as a good light-moderate air DS ship. Miniblade DS glass - 60" glass single peice Mini-blade. Stellar slope performer. Again, some fully repaired damage, but cosmetically not mint. Spirit 2m thermal woodie - a 2m 2-peice wing balsa/film (woodie) thermal soarer. Has tow hook and take hard launches. Open to offers. Photos to come. Selling cause they just collect dust and deserve to be flown, and i want to clear some space in the man-cave.

    Wellington (part deux)

Im not sure what happened to the last Wellington thread - may have been deleted after the spam attacks of late? This then is the new Wellington 'wanna go fly' thread. So, with that out of the way - who wants to go fly Sunday afternoon at whitiriea park/titahi bay? I have a shed-load of planes to re-maiden/check the programming etc after various models have been repaired and back into service and/or have been migrated over to the Taranis. Thinking of getting there after 1pm for a few hours. Looking ok for now although i do need some big air for some of them.

    Wellington (part deux)

The day started out with the wind off angle and low cloud hanging about. We kept checking each hour or so, but no improvements. Until about 12:30 when the cloud was thickening we decided it was a bust. Then no more than 1/2 hour later, it had swung to a better wind angle, and the cloud started to lift. So we hurriedly headed on up Ngaio as we both very desperate to see the PMS 2 fly after all this effort and time. I started with the Bat, and it was a bit rough but i managed to get it just shy of 180MPH (and agonisingly close to another Bat record). Then Jono had a fly of his Scorcher, and that was one of the most exciting flights ive seen. His scorcher is a whole kilo heavier than my PMS2 and it looked like it was getting thrown around all over the place, so i was really worried that the PMS would fare even worse. So i was thinking maybe not to fly it. I decided to fly a handful of laps to see how it would handle the rough - and i was pleasantly surprised, so i continued to fly. It flew so good out of the box. Tracking very well, and handling the rough conditions so much better than i thought it would. It was actually fairly easy to fly and hold roughly on line. I tried several different lines, and circuits, and positions etc. Eventually i got 221 out of it a couple of times. I could see the wing bend a little on the harder turns, but it held up to it well. After perhaps about 20mins of DS the battery started to complain - its 2x 14500 LiIon batteries and only 800mAh as thats all that will fit in the skinny fuselage. My only real complaint about it was the low headroom of the battery capacity, as when i was coming into land with the flaps out the radio was screaming "battery critical" at me constantly (although the settings are a little conservative), but that certainly DOES NOT help when your puckered up trying to land it on a skinny ridgeline.... i think i got it a little too far back and a gust rolled it over too close to the ground and it dorked in splitting the nose and fin. Fixable, but annoying. On the plus side, it got to taste the darkside and it (and i) loved it. It was a joy to fly, and not at all tip-stallish like it was slow on the front side. I just need a heavier one, and more wind. Also a bigger fuselage mold and a tail mould is in the works (we will get a mold CAD model and milled), so that will make it much easier to get 2x18650s in there and we wont have any battery issues...

That was a fun light-air session, Jono. Good to get back and Fly at Long Gully (perhaps the last ever?) tho. The Destiny was (always is) fun to DS. The WeeBee too was a hoot! Anyway - heres the vid i took of your square-tipped light Scratcho. Enjoy!

Palmy bit too far to go for me for a short day trip. There looks like there may be a small chance tomorrow morning in Wellington without rain, but rain looks to be on its way by midday. light SE winds. Long gully perhaps? but i suspect it may be clouded out... Wait n see if forecast improves...

    Icon 1 for sale

Hi all. I am selling my Maple Leaf Icon Mk1 F3j Thermal Duration glider. Its 3.4m in span and until fairly recently has been my primary TD winch glider and is very docile and easy to fly.. Its in good condition, although the tail has had a repair and there are some minor creasing in the horizontal stab and on one of the wing tips - neither affect the performance in any way. All in all, for its age and use, its in good flying condition. Its 3 piece wing is very strong and can handle full-pedal winch launches easily. She's always been a very easy, predictable, and stable launcher, so she's perfect for someone learning to winch launch. Comes with all JR servos and i can provide FrSky RX and OpenTx program for it as/if required. $700 with the bag you can see or $650 without. This is a great deal on a competitive TD ship perfect for someone starting out. Pete

    Genuine Higgins Rodent R10 (SOLD)

For sale is my genuine Higgins Rodent R10. I have just about finished refurbishing it from the ground-up. It has new battery, new RX, new paint job, new stickers etc. Has 3 good ino-lab digital servos. Comes with a spare nose-cone as well. These are designed for those big air days when you ballast it up with tons of lead and let it loose. These type of things are known as "lead-sleds" in the US. They are all about speed and silly roll rates. They also class as "PNF" (pointy nose fetish). In a previous life it had a prang, but it has been very nicely repaired and you simply next to impossible to even notice. This is a very tidy and good true flying model. Fun to fly. In near mint condition (i did manage a couple of minor chips in the paint fitting it out ) $400.

    PSS F-20

Cool - the U2 is the best PSS, i reckon doesnt need much rescaling the wings - it keeps it original dimensions and doesnt look weird.

    Wellington (part deux)

Cool shot from up high, Jono That was friggin wild day for sure. Looking back at those videos shows quite clearly it was as rough as guts and perhaps even rougher... In my mind my AFP70 seemed more stable than it actually was - it was all over the place. Glad i pushed the Bat record up a bit too as 164 (prev record) i felt was always a bit too slow. That PMS of yours was looking hooked up! Much, much smoother than my AFP. There was at least 270-280 in there today if you didnt loose the elevator. Shame there was no video.
